Cameroon : Principal arrested for messing up examination money
Mathurin Ayek Mvomo, the Principal of Government High School Nguelemendouka , is currently being held in Abong Mbang Prison.
He is accused of
having diverted the examination fees of candidates for the probatoire
and
baccalauréat examinations for the
2017 session. The information is contained in the columns of the daily
newspaper Le Jour of May 4, 2017 which indicates that the the troubled Principal began with the non-publication of the provisional lists of candidates for the BEPC examination.
Faced
with this situation, the students staged a strike which therefore pushed the Head of establishment who solicited the support of the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) to solve this problem. "It
was first of all the students of 3ème who wanted to rebel when they noticed their Principal had not forwarded
the files of the students of their class," says Michel Ngoumou the
PTA President of Government High School Nguelemendouka.According
to the PTA President, it is thanks to the loan of
CFA F 700 000 contracted from the association that the Principal
succeeded in paying the examination fees of students in 3ème. After the resolution of this problem, in the East it was believed that everything had returned to order.
But the activities in the school werec paralyzed during the Physical Education exams of the baccalauréat. when the candidates for this examination asked to see the final lists. With the help of Simplice Kengne, the Sub-divisional Officer of the Néglemendouka district, the students passed their exams, but were not sure that their files have actually been forwarded by the Principal. Upon the insistence of the administrative authority, an incomplete list was handed to him. A few days before the examination, the administrative authority tried to solve the problem.
