Cameroon – Diaspora Forum 2017: The Cameroonian state is the main obstacle to the projects of the Diaspora

On 28 June 2017 at the Palais des Congrès in Yaounde, the first edition of the Diaspora Forum opened. Under the theme: “Cameroon and its diaspora: working together for the development of the nation“. According to the columns of the Daily of l’Economie published on June 30, 2017, it was in order to present the initiatives of the Cameroonian government in favor of its diaspora,  to ensure the

visibility of its actions in favor of the Development of Cameroon and set up a communication platform.

“The vision of Cameroon, led by the Head of State Paul Biya is to be an emerging country by 2035. This aspiration requires a relevant involvement of all its sons and daughters, including those of the diaspora, For the realization of this through concrete development projects, thus achieving the objectives of sustainable development. The effectiveness of the Diaspora Forum organized by Cameroon is rightly part of this dynamic, “stressed Lejeune Mbella Mbella, Minister of External Relations, during the launching ceremony chaired by Prime Minister Philemon Yang.

The Cameroonian diaspora also calls on the government to put its know-how into practice without too many hurdles because bureaucratic barriers and corruption often undermine the best intentions.

“I am a Cameroonian residing in France. In 2015, I wanted to create in Cameroon a company that had to do in the recycling of household waste. However, there were not only too many administrative delays but also a lot of paperwork, which did not encourage me to continue the process. I think it is time for the government to relax the procedures for setting up businesses, for example, to allow Cameroonians from the Diaspora to invest in the country, “Ebenezer Behene said.

“Several workshops were organized during this forum on priority and promising sectors such as: health, social security, arts, culture, sport and tourism, education and vocational training, communication and relations, ICT and the green economy, not forgetting the economy, finance and real estate development, “said Dr. Chintoue Sanatou Njikam, Head of Cameroon Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in columns Daily Economic News.
